Weekend Warriors: New Students Bags

I’m back with my Weekend Warrior gals to bring you some back to school cool tips!

At the beginning of every year, we rush around with our heads cut off trying to get copies ran and forms together for parents to fill out. The first week of school we spend so much time setting everything up for the year. When we think it’s all settled down, here comes the new student and you rush around once again to try and get everything together for them. Two years ago, I got six new students in one year. I don’t mind getting a new student at all. It’s all a part of it. I don’t like spending time out of that day trying to get everything together for that student. You know what I’m talking about, the journal set up, behavior calendar, and anything else that they might use daily. Here is my solution to fix that headache. At the beginning of the year, when I’m making all of my back to school copies, I make 5 extra sets.

I take everything a new student might need and put it in a Ziploc baggie. Shown above is everything I passed out at meet the teacher. Included is my classinformation packet with our schedule and info, a letter about class dojo, a copy of our dojo behavior tracker, their 2nd grade helper, and their writer’s notebook setup (I’ll be blogging about this soon, so stay tuned.) This includes their spelling dictionary.

I put these baggies in my filing cabinet. When I get a new student, I pull one out and it has everything they need. I’m not running around during my conference time trying to get everything together. It’s so helpful and takes no time at all.
I hope this b2s tip has been helpful. Don’t forget to click on the links below to visit other WW posts for some great tips.
