It’s a new year! I hope everyone had a good start back to school this past week. It took my sweeties a day or so to get back into the routine of things. On Monday, one of the first things I got asked was is if we were going to do math stations. Of course we are!!! Over the break I was busy making my new set of Warm and Cozy Math Stations to use during the winter months.
We jumped right back into our station rotation and it was like they never had a break. They were hard at work practicing previously taught skills while I was working with a group at my table. I managed to snap a few pictures of their hard work.
Our math standards changed this past year. In 2nd grade they now have to be able to recognize, compare, and order numbers up to 1,200 instead of 999. Working with 4 digit numbers makes them feel so grown up. 🙂
In Texas, our fraction standards also changed. They only have to recognize fractions in halves, fourths and eights. We no longer have to teach numerator and denominators but I’ve tried to throw some of that into the mix of things. Here they are only writing the fraction of the parts shaded. Our curriculum teaches the word form rather than using a fraction bar.
Next week they will continue to work on fractions, place value up to 1,200 and addition with regrouping.
The photo below shows a closer look at all 10 stations!
