Five for Friday: Word Problems, iPods, Vocabulary, and FREEBIES!

It's Friday ya'll! Can I get an AAAMMMEEENNN! This week was all kinds of jammed packed with business. I'm sharing a little big of my week with you with 5 for Friday with Doodle Bugs.

We have new math TEKS in Texas and one of the main focuses is problem solving and multi-step problems. This is going to be a challenge with my little ones this year. Since there is a gap this year with our new standards, they are expected to do things at a much higher level right now compared to last year. Our word problems have gone from basic to multi-step with tricky wording. I took this week to focus only on problem solving.

On Monday, we reviewed our key words. I made these quick flip flap templates to use in our interactive notebooks. We wrote our key words under each flap and talked about each one and how they can be used. You can click here to grab the templates for FREE!

My days are so fast paced. I feel like I have no time this year. I wanted to incorporate word problems on a daily basis and needed something that would be quick and easy to manage. I made my first set of monthly problem solving journal prompts. Each morning, they get their daily prompt, and glue into their journal. We made it a part of our morning work routine. My kids have been finishing their morning work super quick this year (which is a good thing!) so it wasn't a big deal to add a few extra minutes to cover this skill daily.

You can check them out in my TPT store. There are 30 word problems that include basic addition and subtraction and multi-step concepts. At the top of each page, I've included which skill those prompts cover so you can easily skip around.

We have hit the ground running with Daily 5. I received a set of iPods from Donors Choose and my kids have been so excited about them. Last weekend I got them all set up and had them ready to go for Monday. I introduced Listen to Reading and it was a huge hit! They did so well. After lots of practice, I'm ready to turn them loose next week. I'll introduce Word Work on Monday and then after that we'll be in full swing.

We started a new story this week; Henry and Mudge:Under the Yellow Moon. We got our vocabulary flip books made. They take these home to study their words each week.

You can get this flip book here. It is part of my Journey's Unit 1 vocabulary flip books

Do you follow me on TPT? Have you grabbed my 2 year "TPT"aversary FREEBIES yet? If you do follow (and were a follower before last Sunday) you should check your inbox for a surprise!

One of our skills to go along with Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon this week is multiple meaning words.

We played our first game of scoot yesterday and they L-O-V-E-D it!

I'll be posting this officially in my TPT store on Sunday so stay tuned!

Fall weather has hit the beautiful state of Texas (well sort of). I don't redecorate my house for each season, but I will dress up my mantel and my door with a cute wreath.

My hubs and I are HUGE college football fans. I had a different vision of this wreath. I still need to add some more "pop" to it but that will have to wait until I can make another Hobby Lobby run.

Any guesses on who supports Texas Tech and who supports OU? If you've followed me for a while you should know this. :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
