Five For Friday: 9/12/14

I have been horrible about taking photos of what we are doing in class this year. Right now I have 23 kids. Last year I had 13 so it is a night and day difference. Everything seems to take twice as long. I feel so busy to hardly even look at the time much less take a picture. I'm trying though. I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday.

I never, ever, EVER thought I would have a clip art image of myself. I decided to take the plunge and got a mini me made from Teaching in the Tongass. I was skeptical about it at first. I thought, how could it really look like me. I had to take a photo of myself and e-mail it to her so she could draw me. Within a day, I had my preview and my husband said "woah, it really does look like you!" I LOVE IT!!! I think it is so cute!! She did a great job. If you are looking to have a custom mini made, I highly recommend her.

We worked on punctuation this week during our language arts block. We did a lot of sort activities with our pocket chart like this each day. Their morning work always has tons of writing practice for them to practice capitals and punctuation so I tried to stay away from that during our ELA time.

I'll post more about this next week when we wrap up our unit.

We are diving into the world of Henry and Mudge this week. We use Journey's and the first story in our book is Henry and Mudge the First Book but it is only the first chapter. I have a small bookshelf by my desk where I put books to go along with topics we are talking about. They've been loving Henry and Mudge so far. A lot of my stronger readers have been picking them for their book bags to read during D5.

In math we have been learning all about those doubles and doubles +1 facts. We have been super busy learning this strategy. While it is an easier one for them, I think it is so important at the same time. We made our double bubble craft. This is a part of my Double Bubble Unit.

Today we played our first I have, who has game. It took us a few tries but they caught on quickly and did really well with it. This is also in my Double Bubble Unit.

One of my goals for this year was to not over work myself. I love teaching. I love blogging. I love creating TPT products. But it can all get overwhelming very quickly. I've tried to spend less time on the computer and more time with my husband and more time for myself. So, last weekend, I didn't do anything school related. I read a book. Yes, a real, non-school related book, during the school year. I love to read and rarely find time to do it. Colleen Hoover is my favorite author. If you are looking for a good series to read, I highly recommend her Slammed series. I read her latest book, Ugly Love in a day. There isn't anything better than getting caught up in a good book and not being able to put it down.

Now I'm off to enjoy the rainy evening with my husband. We have a hot date on the couch with some popcorn and a movie! Have a good weekend ya'll!

  1. Last year I had 23, this year 26! I know that is only 3 extra bodies than last year, but I promise you it makes a big difference! The noise level is way up this year and my room feels so much more crowded!!
