Five for Friday: August 1st

Holy smokes ya'll! It is AUGUST!!! AHHHHH! Only 3 more weeks until back to school and this girl is not ready. I told my husband last night that I have tons of projects to do and that I'm mad at myself for waiting until the last minute to do them. UGH!

Early this week I went to visit my parents. My mom is a retired teacher turned antique collector! She goes to garage sales just about every day looking for great deals, antiques, and junk to refinish. She is always finding me deals. If we ever need anything all we have to do is call my mom and she'll have found it within a few days for a GREAT deal. So just last week I was telling her that I wanted to get the National Geographic for Kids subscription. What does she do? She found a set just from last year a garage sale and got me all 12 issues for FREE!!! Is that not awesome or what!

When she calls to tell me she got the magazines, she also told me she got me these animal posters and that my kids were going to love them. I'm thinking ok, these are going to be small. NO PEOPLE! These posters are HUGE, LIFE SIZE CARDBOARD POSTERS! There are also two blow up ones. I love them but I have no idea what I'm going to do with them or where I'm going to put them!

It's back to school season so why not get your nails ready too! I created these exclusive b2S wraps with the Jamberry Nail Art Studio. I'll be placing an order next Friday if you are interested.  E-mail me or visit my Facebook page for more info! I can't wait to get them!

I'd been out of town all week so yesterday I ventured out to Wal-Mart to get my b2s supplies. They did this thing where teachers could earn 10% on their school purchases. Yesterday was the last day so it was a little crazy. Here is what my cart looked like. The lady who checked me out was a little freaked out when I had 50 boxes of crayons to check out. Then I had to explain why I had two different kinds. (Crayola and CraZArt). I went into detail about how Crayola is better but I can't afford to fill my entire crayon box for the year with them. She fought I was nuts!!! LOL

THEN.....I can't believe I'm even going to tell you i

THEN.....I can't believe I'm even going to tell ya'll this! So you see what my cart looked like when I checked out. I couldn't put my supplies into sacks because there wasn't enough room in my basket so I just put them back into the crates. Well....it was POURING DOWN RAIN when I left the store. Seriously people!!! I had an umbrella in my purse so I get the bright idea to think that I can actually push this cart and carry my umbrella in the pouring down rain at the same time. I was WRONG! I take maybe ten steps, one of my crates falls off the basket and into a big pile of water. (It just happened to have happened right in front of an empty handicapped space and they honked at me for being in their way but that's a whole different story.) So here I am, getting soaked, picking up all these school supplies out of this puddle of water, all while trying to prevent my cart from rolling a way and other supplies falling off. I did have one lady offer to help me. I finally got everything loaded in my truck. Luckily none of my notebooks got ruined but several of those crayon boxes go a little wet. I'm glad I can take them out. I sware, someone filmed that happening to me and I'm going to end up on America's Funniest Home Videos or something. It's funny now but I was not happy at the time.

Do you use Journeys? Last year was my first year using it and it got a little overwhelming at times. We really focused on vocabulary because that is so important in 2nd grade. We would make these flip books where the students would write the word, the definition and a sentence. They were great but it would take them FOR-EV-ER to get them done. I created these "pre made" flip books to hopefully save me some time this next school year.

The definitions and sentences I used are from the glossary of the Journeys books.

Each story flip book includes 4 different options. All you need to do is copy front to back. There is a blank flip book for your students to write the definition and a sentence.

A pre-made flip book where the definition and a sentence is already there. Copy and you're good to go.

Then there is a definition flip book where all your students need to do is write the definition of each word from the glossary.

The last template is for writing a sentence. The definition is included and they just write a sentence from the book or create their own.

Unit 1 and 2 are posted in my store. You can look for the rest SOON!
