Weekend Warriors Part 1: TPT Ticks and Tricks (Photos & Videos Galore)

Weekend Warriors is here folks! This month is all about TPT/blogging tips and tricks. The secrets that no one told you.

Today I’m going to be sharing some TPT tips that I learned from the conference in Vegas. Tomorrow I’ll be sharing some blogging and pinterest tips with you too.

I’ve been blogging and selling on TPT for almost 2 years. It took about 6-8 months to find my groove and own style. When I first started out, I was basically teaching myself how to do things. I hope this post will help those who are just starting out, wanting to start the TPT business, or even veteran sellers just a little bit.

While in Vegas, I attended several workshops on how to improve the quality of your TPT products. A big thank you to all the presenters for sharing your knowledge with me.

So lets talk about making quality TPT products. I’m going to share some tips and tricks that I have learned over the past two years to hopefully help you out too.

1. First up, is using COMMERCIAL FONTS & GRAPHICS. Commercial use is fonts and graphics that include the license to be in PAID PRODUCTS. A lot of items you find out there are for personal use only. These items can not be used in paid products. Please make sure you check the artists terms of use before putting them in your product.

Here are some great fonts that I use in my products. When you purchase a lifetime commercial license, this means that any new fonts that artist adds, you get those without paying any additional cost.

If you are like me, you probably have hundred of fonts installed on your computer. When you are creating products, it can get overwhelming and frustrating trying to find the perfect font of a certain word. While in Vegas, I was introduced to word mark.it. This website is LIFESAVER!!! You can enter the text your wanting to change and it will show you what it looks like in EVERY FONT you have installed on your computer.

Here is what it looks like. Please note that is does not end in a .com. It is word mark.it

Isn’t that AMAZING! I remember sitting next to Angie from Lucky Little Learners at this session in Vegas and we both looked at each other and went “WOAH!”

Now lets move on to some of my favorite graphic artists. These are just a select few of some of the people I use. They can ALL be found on TPT.

Now if you are like me, then you have literally hundreds to thousands images saved on your computer. It can get very overwhelming if it is not all organized. I’ve made a video to show you how I organize all of my graphic images.

*This is the first video tutorial I’ve ever made. It took me several tries. I was super nervous. Be nice people :)*

You can grab my desktop organizer by clicking here. I’ve included 4 different background options. Just right click on the slide you want to use. Click save as picture and save it to your computer.

2. Up next is including teacher and student directions in your products.

Sometimes, I like to put writing craftivities in my writing center so I’ll include a copy of student directions for them as well.

When including craftivities in your products, always include an example of what it should look like. The one I have shown is just a simple one that can be colored. But if you are including a craft that needs to be copied onto different types of paper and put together, it is nice to see what the finished product look likes.

3. Printer and ink friendly copies are always important too.

4. Securing your documents is so important. I can’t express to you just exactly how important it is.

Here is video tutorial on how to secure your PDF document on a Mac when using PowerPoint.

I hope this will help you secure your PDFS until you can get Adobe Pro.

5. Give buyers a GREAT first impression!!!

I’m going to admit that I’m a little embarrassed to show this next slide to ya’ll. It shows the before and after of one of my BEST SELLERS.  The image on the right, the word DOUBLE is misspelled. I never even noticed it. Yet, it still became my best seller.  The cover was like this for almost a year before a sweet buyer messaged me to let me know. If you even find a mistake in a product, pleaser let the seller know instead of leaving back feed back. We will gladly fix it for you. See, I’m human. I make mistakes too.
