Blogs We Admire: Guess Who I Secretly Admire

We all have blogs that we secretly stalk admire. Can you guess who I creep on? LOL Here's a few clues.

Any guesses yet?!?

We are polar opposites! I've never been to a hockey game. We don't get much ice down here in Texas.

She has a slight obsession  for a particular animal that you might see when you go to the zoo. Have you figured it out yet?

Hippo Hooray for Second Grade!

Hippo Hooray for Second Grade!

We have become good blogging buddies over the past few months and I just adore her! I chose to review her Making Words for a Whole Year pack and I absolutely love it.

Making Words is a hands on activity where students try to make as many words as they can with the given set of letters.  Last year I had a boggle board in my classroom and my kids really enjoyed it. This year I wasn't able to put one up due to lack of wall space. I love having this type of activity in my word work station so when I found this resource I was stoked that all of my kids could be working on it at the same time. This pack incldues four sheets per month for the entire year. I have been using them on Fridays as fillers between tests and other activities and for my fast finishers. Each sheet has a mystery word that the students work hard to find. It's a big deal in my class for whoever finds it first!

A bunch of my kiddos just started little league so we started out with the mystery word "baseball". They caught onto the concept quickly and asked for more of a challenge! There is a picture in the top corner to help them figure out the mystery word.

This type of activity is great for spelling patterns. They quickly figured out that they could make the word ball and if they added an s, they could make the word balls. They would get so excited about this. One kid literally jumped out of his chair, threw his arms into the air and said "I found a 3 AND 4 letter" word!  It required my struggling students to use their higher thinking schools which I loved.
