2 Weeks Worth of Fractions (FREEBIES) and a Sale!

My OH My Ya'll! This has been a crazy week. We had 1/2 day on Monday, our Easter party on Wednesday, and yesterday was a 1/2 day. I'm not sure how much teaching/learning actually happened since the kids were excited about everything. Then I have had something wedding planned every night this week...I am one tired girl and so thankful for the day off.
Over the last 2 weeks my sweeties have been working hard on fractions. Don't you just love hearing them try to say "numerator and denominator" for the first time! Most of them have the hang of it now but it's still funny to hear them say "ne-nah-an-nator' LOL
I love The Teacher Wife's Fraction Fun Math Packet. It has a lot of excellent resources to introduce this topic. I also used items from my Batter Up: Baseball Fraction Centers & Activities. I also wanted to share with you some fraction FREEBIES I used too!
We did "My Name in Fractions" to help introduce this topic. This kids really enjoyed it and didn't even realize we were reviewing vowels and constants too!
Here's My example!
Here's some student examples!
Click here to download My Name in Fractions template for FREE!! There is also a sheet for whole group instruction. I let each child pick a name and we made their name in fractions as a group.
We also made Fraction Kites from Mrs. Bainbridge's Class! Click here to check it out as well as some other great resources!
AND we went on Fraction Egg Hunt! I found this Fraction Frenzy Freebie and decided to use it for our egg hunt! Yesterday, I only had my kids for 1 hour because we had a program, them PE, then lunch, then recess, then music and THEN school let out soooo...I needed something fun to entertain them with for the hour! I took these scoot cards and folded them up in Easter eggs and "hid" them around the room". They had to hunt down each egg, solve the problem and write it on their answer sheet, then neatly fold the paper back, place it in the egg and put it back where it was. It actually worked out pretty well and they really enjoyed it.
There's a rundown of how we learned fractions!
Don't forget that today is the LAST day to enter my 100 follower giveaway! You have a change to win 45 AMAZING units from some wonderful blogger/TPT friends! Check it out! You have until 10:00 PM tonight to enter! Good luck!

Last but not least, to say THANK YOU again for all of your support I'll be having a sale in my TPT store this weekend. Everything will be 15% off!!! Here are some of my latest units that will be included in the sale.

Let's Get Aquainted Linky {Nouns}

I know what your thinking...2 posts in one day?!? Technically I did my giveaway yesterday and just scheduled it for early this morning so technically it doesn't count! I won't be able to blog much tomorrow so I wanted to do this linky while I had the chance!

I'm linking back up with Flying Into First Grade's Let's Get Acquainted Linky! If you missed out on my answer to last weeks edition click here. This week is the noun game! I'll be sharing my favorite person, place, thing and animal with you.
The award for my favorite person goes to....my fiancé Jared! We have been best friends for almost 3 years, dated for a year and a half and we're finally tying the knot on June 22nd, 2013!
My favorite place to be is Possum Kingdom Lake. My family has had a cabin on this beautiful piece of Texas heaven for over 30 years. I can't wait to spend time there this summer, relaxing, laying on the dock, swimming, skiing, wakeboarding and just having fun on the boat. Plus the best part about our place is that there is NO cell phone service so its a nice getaway sometimes.
My favorite thing is my Kindle Fire. Jared got it for my last birthday and I love it! It goes everywhere with me!
My favorite animal(s) are our 2 dogs Dakota and Bentley. Dakota is a crazy, spastic border collie who we love and Bentley is a super laid back chocolate lab. They are complete opposites but best friends. I also have a quarter horse named Kid.
My 3 year old nephew!
Don't forget to check out my 100 followers giveaway going on all this week! Click here to check it out! There are 45 K-5 products up for grabs!

Five For Friday {March 22, 2013}

It's FRIDAY!!! This has been the longest week for some reason. Why is coming back from Spring Break so hard?!?
I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her fabulous Five For Friday Linky where I'll share 5 random things from my week!
 Number 1:
On Monday I participated in the Let's Get Acquainted Linky! I had to tell three things about myself....2 of them true, 1 false and people commented on which they thought was the lie. Here's what I posted:

I learned to drive when I was 9 years old. ~TRUE! I grew up in small town USA ya'll! I learned to drive when I was 9, a standard when I was 10 and was driving on Interstate 20 by the time I was 12. Our ranch is right off of 20 so that's why.
2. I am terribly afraid of clowns.~ TRUE! I don't have a reason why, I just always have ever since I was a little girl. My mom said as a baby I would scream at the sight of one.

3. I have traveled to all 50 states. ~FALSE!! For those of you that guessed right, congrats! I've been to 27 states. I'll make it to all 50 on day!
Number 2:
We still use basal readers at my school. For the most part it isn't bad but our series is pretty old. This week our story was about the "new" state quarters, explaining to the kids that in 1999 the quarters will begin to change to represent each of the 50 states. I know....old right! I found this great website for the kids to research the state quarters. Click here to check it out. It has kid friendly information about each quarter, games, videos and more. I checked out the schools class set of iPads for most of the week and the kids did their first "on their own" research project. I gave them a few minutes to browse through the quarters. Let me say, they got so into it!!! They each picked a different quarter (no kid picked the same one) to research and write about. They had to state the important information about the quarter then summarize what they learned. We're not completely finished but here's a look at a first draft and a almost final product.
Working hard
Number 3:
Here's a picture of my latest wedding project! This is going to be on our cake table. I LOVE how it turned out!
I also figured out how our centerpieces where going to look. My mom found a TON of mason jars at a garage sale so this weekend we are dying them all turquoise!
I'll become a MRS, 3 months from today!
Number 4:
BASEBALL season is right around the corner! Here are some pinterest inspired looks I saw this week that I'm just dying to recreate! Go Rangers!
Only with the Rangers
Number 5:
I'm going to ask for a favor. Some of you may have seen my post on the TPT forums. I teach in a very small town. I live in a great community full of wonderful people who are willing to bend over backwards for each other. My coworker and her family are in great need.
My coworker has two special needs children. , Quinton was born with Alobar Holoprosencephaly and hydrocephalus on March 24, 2003. The doctors told Katy and Lance he wouldn't live to see his first birthday. He proved them wrong and is about to celebrate his 10th birthday! He’s unable to walk, hold his head up or function on his own. Quinton's beautiful sister Abigail was born three years later with no health problems but it was clear a few years later something just wasn't right. They learned that Abby is in the Autism spectrum and doesn’t communicate with words. She does communicate through some sign language and other creative ways! I have the opportunity to work with these children and they are truly a special gift from God.

Our sweet Quinton has been nominated by Celebrate National Mobility Awareness Month for a chance to win a wheel chair accessible van. I can not think of a more deserving family.

If you'd like to help this family in need, please click the link below to read their story and to vote.

"We live in a small Texas town that is at least 100 miles from Quinton’s doctors. Quinton has outgrown his car seat and because of his muscles and hips sitting in it makes him hurt. We are looking for a safe and comfortable way to get Quinton to his doctor appointments and to places to help make his life happy, healthy, and fun."

If you are willing to help a fellow teacher in need I can promise you that your vote is much more than appreciated.
That's it folks! If you'd like to join up with Doodle Bugs linky click here.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Marcy :)

For those of you that are waiting for my answer to the Lets Get Acquainted Linky Party. Check back on Friday for my answer!

Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party {Week 2}

I'm baacckk!!! Last week was our spring break so I've been MIA from the blogging world for a few days. I've been "internetless" (is that even a word?!?) for the last week so I have been having some SERIOUS blogging/TPT withdrawals BUT I will admit that my spring break was spent "work free" and it was fabulous! The first part of my week was spent in OKC with my fiancé and his family. We had our first wedding shower and got lots of goodies to use in our new house! The rest of the week was spent  at my fiancé's house. We live 3 1/2 hours a part so it was nice to spend more that just a weekend together. I got lots and lots of wedding things done. We got our passports ordered, finalized everything with our bakery for our cakes, and got tons of decorations made! I finally got to use my cameo and I finally see what all the hype is about. That little machine is a crafters/teachers dream! I got just got home today and I'm having a serious case of the "I don't wanna go back to work tomorrow" syndrome!
Anyways, over the break I didn't have internet access for most of the time so I was having to use my phone for everything. I read a few blogs here and there and came across the Let's Get Acquainted Linky hosted by Flying into First Grade. From the few blogs I got to read, I loved learning new things about some of my "friends" out there and immediately became sad that I couldn't join in. (Fiancé is definitely getting the internet when we get married!)  This evening I spent my time catching up the blog world when I came across Week 2 of the linky I was so wanting to do last week! I immediately started this blog post and it is WAY past my bed time ya'll! (Spring break + time change = not good for this teacher).

I'm going to kill 2 birds with one stone here and do last weeks and this weeks.
Last week was to share 3 things about yourself using your initials.
M ~ Margaritas :)
L ~ Lakes (This girl is ready for the summer! Laying out on the dock, wake boarding, swimming, relaxing...LOVE IT!)
F ~ Football!! I am a total football guru! I probably know more about the sport that most guys! College football is my favorite! During the fall you'll find me decked out in my Texas Tech gear (GO RED RAIDERS!) and I'm a long time fan of the Dallas Cowboys!
Sorry I'm not posting any photos. It is past my bed time.
Here's this weeks linky! Listed below are 3 things about me BUT only 2 of them are true. Which do you think is false?!?
1. I learned to drive when I was 9 years old.
2. I am terribly afraid of clowns.
3. I have traveled to all 50 states.
Comment below and let me know which you think is a fib!
I might have told a small fib earlier when I said I had a "work free" break. I'm SORRY!!!! I did manage to start on my newest unit "Batter Up: A Mini Fraction Unit." Baseball season is almost here and we are diving into the world of fractions for the next few weeks. I have a few things to adjust and then this will be posted!
It is now officially past my bedtime and 6am is going to come bright and early! Goodnight!
Marcy :)

Sometimes Teachers Just Need a Laugh

Today was one of the longest days EVER! We had a practice evacuation drill. Our entire school had to WALK 6 blocks to the Church of Christ in town. Then they all had to sit their without talking for (this part didn't go so well.) Needless to say by the time we got back to school we still had an hour left. Movie time....yes please!!!
By the time I got home I was in need of a good laugh and stumbled across these youtube vidoes called "Kid Snippets." If you haven't seen these, you really should! I can't stop watching them. They are great! Here's a few of my favorites.
"Math Class"
Valentine's Day (This one had me ROLLIN'!!!)
Wedding Jitters
Tooth Fairy
I could share about 20 more of these but I have to pack for my trip to OKC tomorrow! T-minus 1 day until spring break! woohoo!
Happy Spring Break Everyone

Smell and Spell

I'm keeping this short and sweet tonight ladies. I am EXHAUSTED! The only reason I'm still up is because Duck Dynasty is on! That's a Fact Jack!!!
I'm always looking for new ways to get my kids excited about their spelling words. A few weeks ago I got this great idea from Heidi over at In That Room:Adventures in Second Grade. She talked about this new fun spelling activity she tried with Mr. Sketech Scented Markers and I knew that I had to try this.
First, I took our 15 spelling words and wrote them on the tops of pieces of paper. I passed them out, along with a smelly marker, and our readers (used for a hard surface) and had them make a big circle around the room. They were so excited and started smelling before we could get a complete circle made. It looked more like a lop sided oval really but it worked!
I then played their favorite song (Call Me Maybe-Carley Rae Jepson) and they danced jumped around, waving their arms in the air really fast around their pieces of paper in a circle. When the music stopped they had to smell their marker, then write their word! When the music started back up again, they rotated to the next paper. I heard so many "this smells so good" and "ewwww this stinks!" It was great! Their colorful noses were fun to look at too!
We then graphed our favorite smelly marker but I forgot to take a picture of that! Orange and Cherry we're their favorite smells and licorice was their least favorite.
This was quick, easy, and entertaining! They have already asked when they can do it again!
T-minus 2 days until spring break!
Marcy :)

March Currently

Before I get to this months issue of "currently" from Oh Boy 4th grade...if you have not seen the Find the Leprechaun's Gold" blog hop going on right now...you really need to check it out! 15 lovely ladies linked together to create a FUN blog hop, lot of freebies and chance to win $100 from TPT. Check out the first post here. It took me a little while to do it but it was worth it. I felt like one of my kids saying "what's next, what's next!" Thanks ladies for making my Sunday afternoon exciting!
Now on March's Currently. This is always one of my favorite linkies. Thanks Oh Boy 4th Grade for putting it on. Here's mine!
Listening: It has been a super lazy Sunday for me! They don't come around to often. Lonesome Dove is on TV which is my all time favorite movie. Yes, its 8 hours long but it's 8 hours long of pure greatness. At least this Texas girl thanks so! I've enjoyed watching it all do and doing odd and end things around the house!
Loving: For this first time (probably ever) in a while my house and pick up are BOTH CLEAN!!! The dishes are done and so is the laundry (usually my needing for this link up!). The weather has been beautiful today, almost 80 degrees so the windows are open. Its been so nice. Let's see how long it stays this way.
Thinking: If you don't know, I'm getting married in June. Throughout this engagement process I have learned that everything is RIDICLIOUSLY EXPENSIVE....which is RIDICLIOUS!!! I'm a simple girl and while I am loving planning my wedding, the cost is insane. The average wedding is now $27,000. This girl is doing it in a 1/3rd of that ya'll! To help save money, I've been pondering the idea of making my own invitations with my cameo. I'm thinking I can do it, just wondering if I have the time. Thoughts?
Wanting: My spring break starts in t-minus 5 days! I am more than ready. The past few weeks have been exhausting and a much needed break is needed.
Needing: To do some shopping!!! My first bridal shower is next Saturday. I'm traveling up to OKC to spend the first half of spring break with my soon to be family. I'm pretty sure I need a new, cute dress to wear to the party! I think that's a great excuse!
Like: I have a kindle fire! I love it so much but I rarely have the time to just sit down and read or to play on it. Last week, I finished a book I started over Christmas break. I know, that's pathetic...but I'm determined to make more time for myself. I started reading "The Notebook." I love the movie and I'm a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. I 've read just about all of his books except this one so I've started it and I've been reading a little each night. Its been a good way to unwind at the end of the day.
Love: I made a new dish in my crockpot tonight! I found this broccoli and cheese soup on pinterest. I added potatoes to it and it was DE-LICIOUS!!!
Hate: I HATE ALLERGIES!!! They have been kicking my butt the past few days. Since Christmas, I have gone from the flu, to coughing non stop and now I can not breath. This crazy Texas weather needs to get its act together.
There's my Currently! Click here to participate!
This week we are starting patterns in math. Check out my newest item on TPT "Repeating and Additive Pattern Block Cards." These cards are a great way to introduce or review repeating or additive patterns using pattern blocks. They will also be a great to use in a center. Simply print, laminate and place on a ring. It includes a repeating and additive cover cards, 12 repeating cards and 14 additive cards.
I have these ready to go for tomorrow!
Have a great week ya'll!
Marcy :)
