Pinterest Inspired Christmas Ornaments!

Just popping in to share our pinterest inspired Christmas ornaments we made today for the parents!

Pinterest Version

Cute parent gift. They also made a card that said, "I love you "SNOW" much!" Need to remember for future years. P.S.- This lady has TONS of ideas for the classroom! TONS!!

Our Version

They turned out good for the most part. They were hung on our tree and the kids can't wait to give them to their parents tomorrow.

A little FYI, paint peels right off of these ornaments. I coated it with clear finger nail polish. I'm hoping that does the trick. Any other suggestions?

What gifts do your kids make?

Only 1 1/2 more days!! Now only to survive the Christmas party tomorrow!!

A little big of GOOD news!!!

There is so much sadness and heartache going on in the world right now. I'd be lying if I said the last few days haven't been hard. I'm sure they have been for everyone. After hearing the awful news of the tragic event in CT, I immediately became full of anger. I still just don't understand how someone could be so heartless. I hugged my sweet kiddos a little harder that day. My thoughts are prayers are with every child, student, parent and teacher during this time.

On Friday, I got to leave school an hour early!! Each year during the Holidays we have "gift of time" where another teacher volunteers to watch your class with theirs (movie time!) while you get to leave early to shop or to just relax! I left at 2 and started my 3 1/2 hour drive east to my boyfriends house. During this time I was an emotional wreck, listening to news reports on the radio and lets throw "is he going to ask me to marry him emotions" into the mix! When I got there (he was a nervous wreck) he was very supportive in my emotions. To get me out of the house and my mind off things yeah right he took me to a the Winter Wonderland Park downtown. There was ice skating, booths, and a BEAUTIFUL  courthouse covered in lights! At exactly 7:00 pm, music started blaring and lights started flashing and he got down on one knee and asked me to MARRY HIM!!! I was so surprised not really, I knew!!

I was so excited to share my news with my TPT/blogger friends! In the short time I've been doing this, I've already started to develop friendships. Throughout all the sadness of the day, it ended up being the best day of my life so far!

Here are a few responses I got after telling my kids I was getting married today
1. "will your name be "Mrs. Future Fambro"
2. After saying my last name will be Bernethy "Can I just call you Mrs. B because that name is really hard to say"
3. "Are you going to get mean because people have kids after they get married and my mom is always mad at me?!?"
4. Do we call your MRS now or still MS??
5. "Are you going to have a zebra dress because you always wear zebra?"
They were too cute and so excited!!

I hope you don't mind me sharing! I'll talk about more Christmas Around the World (we bust a piƱata tomorrow!!!) and our graphs unit more this week! I keep telling myself, get through this week and THEN you can think about a wedding!

Wedding Tickers

I did manage to find the time to post my newest unit! The 100th Day of school will be here before you know it! Its one of my favorite days! I missed it last year :(. You can check out Hooray! We Made it to the 100th Day! here!

How was everyone's day?? I was lucky to not get asked any questions about the shooting. Did you? How did you handle it?

I'm off to make my wedding binder! AHHH!

Christmas Around the World Part 1

Last week we began our Christmas Around the World unit! This is one of my FAVORITE things we do all year! I always look forward to it! I bought Sarah Cooley's wonderful Christmas Around the World Scrapbook. She also has a supplement FREEBIE that has been FABULOUS!!!

We spent last Monday making our Christmas Around the World foldable luggage! This contains our passport, airline tickets, world map, and each country information. I forgot to take pictures of this so I'll have to include those in my next post.

Our journey began as we hopped on chairs placed in rows Christmas Airlines and traveled to Italy! My kiddos were so EXCITED...some of the really thought they were getting on a real airplane. The following questions were asked:
Do we need sleeping bags?
Where will we sleep?
How are we going to get food?
Are we taking your truck to the airport because we can't all fit in there?
How are we going to talk to those people when we speak English?

Once we arrived in "Italy" we read The Legend of Old Befana by Tomie De Paola
(Click on the image to purchase it on Amazon)

They loved learning about La Befana, the "Christmas Witch" from Italy. We also talked briefly talked about "The Colosseum" and "The Leaning Tower of Pizza Pisa". I let them research these two landmarks during computer lab! They were fascinated that "The Leaning Tower of Pisa" won't fall over! We then completed our Italy page for our scrapbook.
We then hopped back on Christmas Airlines and traveled to France! Jinx Noel everyone! (Merry Christmas in French!) We learned all about "Pierre Noel"! We learned all about how children in France leave hay and carrots in a boot by their door the reindeer. Pierre takes the hay and carrots and replaces them with presents! We watched a youtube video of the light show at the Eiffel Tower at Christmas! They LOVED this! Last but not least, we made "Bouche De Noel" or "Yule Logs"! A French holiday desert not swiss rolls & m&m's!!

So glad we did this on Friday!! Here is a picture of our France scrapbook page!

This week we are traveling to Germany (yesterday), Sweden (today) and England. I can't wait to continue our journey!!

We also made our wish lists for Santa. Our local newspaper always prints our "Dear Santa" letters. We made our wish lists, wrote our letter and then typed them and E-MAILED them too the local paper! E-mailing was a tough thing but they did it and were so proud! Here's a few of our wish lists.
(She is really missing her two front teeth!)

(Las Vegas...hahaha)

We then made our "Naughty and Nice" lists! We discussed different ways you can end up on the naughty list and what you can do to make it on the nice list! They turned out really cute! They are hanging in the hallway!

I think they turned out really cute! I got the reindeer topper from my team teacher. The wish lists, and naughty and nice lists came from my Ho! Ho! Ho! Holiday Literacy Centers & Activities Unit!

(I'm sorry my picture are bigger...I can't get that little box to click large to pop up? I click on the picture and it just highlights it. Any suggestions?? Its very frustrating!)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Sight Words Slap Attack!

Hey Ya'll!  This is going to be short and sweet! Let me start by saying that today I experienced something that I hope never happens again!!! I had a MOUSE in my room!!! Yes that's right a mouse! My team teacher and I have been seeing signs the past few days. Well today it decided to make its grand appearance and pay us a visit! You have kids screaming, you have kids crying, and then there's the ones that are trying to catch it! I can't tell you how many "plots" I heard today about how to catch this mouse! That's not even the worst part! Over the past week, we've had parents donate food items for our Christmas Around the World...the mouse at some of our food! UGH! Let's just say the whole day was shot!

Now on to what I was originally going to talk about today! My kiddos have already mastered all of their 2nd grade sight words for the year! I've been trying to come up with different ways to implement using them throughout our day! One of my favorite games to play is SLAP ATTACK!!

Slap Attack is a 3 player game! You have 2 slappers and 1 referee! The referee turns over a card and the first slapper to *GENTLY* slap the card and say the word correctly gets to keep the card! If the slap is a tie, the referee decides who hit the card first. If the player who slaps the card first says the word wrong, then the other player gets a chance to answer! Once you have gone through the whole pile of cards, the slapper with the most cards wins! The winner gets to stay and the other slapper and the referee switch places! It really is fun and I love watching the kids get into it! They do a great job of *GENTLY* slapping the card!

Here's a few pics of them in action!

You can check out my 2nd grade version in my TPT store here.

I had a few people ask me if I'd make a set for 1st grade so here it is! Click here to check it out!

I keep the cards on a ring and use them for several other activities as well!

Don't for get about my JEWELRY giveaway if you haven't checked it out already! You have until Satruday at 9pm (central time) to enter!

I'm exhausted! I think this girl will turn in early tonight but wait...Duck Dynasty comes on! Ok, I'll stay up!

Libester Blog Award!

Over the busy Thanksgiving Holiday I was nominated for a Libester Award thanks to the Realistic Teacher! I was beyond EXCITED when I read her post that she had nominated me! She is too sweet and I'm so flattered! Here are the rules!
The Libester Award is given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It's to show that new bloggers are appreciated and help spread the word about our little piece to cyber space.
Here are the rules:
1.You must post 11 random things about yourself.
2. Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.
3. Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.
4.Choose 11 other blogs with less than 200 followers to nominate and link them to your post.
5. You cannot "tag back" the other blog, but leave a comment on this post with the URL of your Liebster post so I can learn more about you and see who you nominate.
11 rAnDoM fAcTs about me!
1. I am super crafty! I love to shop around garage sales, thrift stores, and other places, find something that someone else thinks is junk, and turn it into a treasure!

iFriends:A Partner Picking Method!

Have you ever given your kids something and their imaginations run wild and turn it into something completely different? Of course you have! That’s one of the best parts about our job right?!?

Well a few weeks ago I gave my kids new book marks. I love the “awesomes” that come out of their little mouths over something as simple as this! Anywholater that day, I noticed that the majority of my class had turned their new bookmarks into cell phones! They folded it in half, added their own buttons and pretended to talk to each other across the room. This inspired me to come up with “iFriends: a partner picking method”!

iFriends allows your student to create their own cell phone and choose their top 10 favorite classmates that he/she would want to work with. When you want to pair your students up, have them pull out their cell phones and call out a number. Whoever they have listed as their favorite by that number is their partner for that activity! I quickly realized, since I only have 11 kids (they added an extra favorite!) is that if I called out “pair up with your number 4 favorite, that more one person will end up with the same partner. To solve that issue, I will say “the first 5 students to get out their cell phones gets to pick first”, or just pick a few who are sitting quietly and following directions. I then will call on a student and say “who is your number 6 partner” and they pair up, until everyone is happy! This is a great alternative to picking sticks, drawing cards or some other type of method and the kids really like it! They get excited to have their very own “cell phone” all to themselves and they still talk to each other on them, so cute! Click on the link below to check out iFriends in my TPT or TN store!

(I'm having issues hyperlinking my pictures...I've googled it and I can't seem to get it right. Can anyone help me??? If so, please send me an email! THANKS in advance!)

What are some things your kids have used their minds to change into something completely opposite?

(I'm having issues hyperlinking my pictures...I've googled it and I can't seem to get it right. Can anyone help me??? If so, please send me an email! THANKS in advance!)

Only a few more days until Thanksgiving break! I think I canI think I canI think I canHave a good rest of the week everyone!

Ya’ll come back now ya hear!

Hey Ya'll and Our Class Election!

Hey Ya'll! After a  year of being a total blog addict I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at joining the blogging world and I must say I am EXCITED about this new adventure. I guess I should start by introducing myself so....

My name is Marcy Fambro and I'm a 2nd grade teacher in a small rural town in the great state of Texas! So small that I only have 11 kids!! This is my third year teaching. I spent a year in 1st and this is my second year in 2nd grade! I absolutely LOVE my job! I hope to share my experiences and what it is like teaching in a small town.

I was introduced to the blogging world through pinterest which lead me to TPT a little over year ago and of course I became addicted instantly! I joined the "seller" world of TPT at the end of September and it has been on of the best decisions I have ever made. I never thought that someone would spend their hard earned money on something I created. Getting that first "product sold" e-mail has been one of the highlights of this year so far! I am only 10 sales away from one of my goals...100 products sold! Check out my store Saddle Up For 2nd Grade!

Now onto the good stuff! Yesterday was a big day in 2F....ELECTION DAY! I don't know about your kiddos but mine sure got into some pretty heated "political debates"! They were excited to share their views about "Bronco Bama" and "McRomney"! Oh 2nd graders! Last week our school participated in a district wide election so yesterday we held a mini election from my Election Day Classroom Kit. We created our own voters registration cards and they had to present them before they could cast their ballot.

Please excuse my pictures! They were taken very quickly from my phone!
I called students 2 at a time to cast their vote. Once they presented me with their card, they stepped into our election booth to vote. We had to use our "offices" for our election booth! It wasn't the greatest but it worked!
Once our results were in, we counted our votes and graphed our results. Our winner was....well it ended up a tie!

After our election I had them complete the writing prompt "If I were the President, I would..." and attached them to our election hat craftivity that was included with the unit.

(Their Stellaluna bat were taken down after the picture was taken!) :)

That's our Election Day! What did you do for Election Day?

I'm in the process of updating this unit so that it can be reusable from year to year.

That's all I have for now! Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check back with more updates from Saddle up for 2nd Grade!

Ya'll Come back now ya here!

Marcy Fambro
